Mt Shiratori, or Shiratori Yama, is a sacred mountain for Gokanosho. Around the beginning of 13th century, Heike, ones of the possible ancestors of Gokanosho came up to this mountain to hide themselves from their enemy, Genji Samurai clan who defeated Heike after some fierce battles in the late 12th century. They are said to have lived in these harsh conditions without enough food, very cold weather in winter
